Artistic Director

Nannette Brodie

Nannette Brodie is the Artistic Director and founder of the Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre, a modern dance company she launched in 1986. A choreographer and educator with deep roots in Southern California’s dance scene, Nannette has created a dynamic body of work that has been seen across the U.S. and internationally — with performances in New York, California, Nevada, Illinois, Utah, Mexico, Finland, the Czech Republic, and France.

She performed and choreographed with the nationally recognized Los Angeles modern dance company The Moving Company before establishing her own creative path. Over the years, her choreography has extended into musical theatre, television, and film, and she also founded South Coast Dance Arts Alliance, a nonprofit supporting dance in the region.

Nannette holds a BFA in Art and a Master’s in Dance from California State University, Los Angeles. She has taught on the faculties of CSU Long Beach and Chico, Loyola Marymount University, and Long Beach City College, and served as Director of Dance at Golden West College.

Her choreographic voice has been shaped by formative work with Murray Louis, Janice Day, and Alwin Nikolais, and she is a proud alumna of the Nikolais-Louis Dance Lab in New York City. Her creative work has been recognized with several honors, including the Else Loudon Solo Award at the Palm Desert Festival, the “Daffy” Award from Dance in the Desert, and the Distinguished Artist of the Year award from the City of Long Beach in 2007. She has also received recognition for her contributions to arts education from both Long Beach and Huntington Beach.
